Separation and non-identification vis-a-vis recurrence and conscious roles
With regards to thinking in terms of recurrence and in regards to thinking in terms of conscious roles...
It's an interesting thought to right now - whatever your age or circumstances - live your life as if you either were (a) a different age (like 14 or 18 or something) or (b) live your life as if you were just now placed into the body and circumstances you now reside in.
This would call for not being identified with your past or your surroundings or any old attitudes that now control you.
(This is also the Work subject of Separation.)
Like, imagine if S. or P. just acted like they were teenagers right now and looked around and said I think I'll go to college and get an 'X' degree (thinking in terms of recurrence would obviate all thoughts like "I'm too old.") Or, in the realm of learning, said I think I should learn a musical instrument (and then went about it like a 10-year-old might do it); or a language. You could draw up an ideal program knowing what you know NOW and just do it as if you are still a child now.
Of course, you have to fight the necessities of survival in a way that children perhaps don't (if they have parents taking care of them), yet on the other hand you have the advantage in that you are awake now and KNOW what you want to do and know how to go about doing it (in a way that you didn't - and don't and can't - when you were a child or teenager). Also, most human beings when young aren't guided by adults into ideal development or opportunities and all that; not to mention most young people wouldn't do anything along those lines if they had it handed to them on a silver platter, for reasons of being juvenile and not wise... So, it may be, in the context of recurrence, that it is the ONLY way to do it by separating and non-identifying and doing it now knowing you are in a 'time-body'...
Just a thought really about identification and getting out of its power regarding how we see ourselves and situation.
(Of course, there is the thought that if you have already awakened and developed enough to escape recurrence then what is the point? I think the point would remain that it's a good thing to do because escaping recurrence means you're able to play a conscious role and live in the present. Really, this whole idea I'm presenting is about the foundational work ideas and practices of separation and non-identification, at a very practical level, so it IS about developing in a Work sense...)
