4 states of consciousness
Here is a way to increase valuation (if needed) in things like self-remembering. Look at it from the angle of the four states of consciousness.
Because you know the first state of consciousness exists: head-on-pillow sleep. You experience it. Sort of. At least you know you lie down to sleep and wake up some 8 or so hours later.
Then you experience the 2nd state of consciousness - waking sleep - as well. As you go through your everyday life. Maybe you have to be convinced you're not awake when in the 2nd state by experiencing what waking sleep is by making an aim to be in a state of self-remembering then falling asleep in the midst of it, then remembering your aim some time later when you awaken again. Then you know what waking sleep is.
So now you can see that that state of self-remembering (the 3rd state of consciousness, actually called the state of self-remembering in the main sources, and also called self-consciousness) is a real state. A state that requires effort to be in.
The fourth state is called objective-consciousness. It's not practical to describe ot, or try to, because you need to be in the third state as your average state to get there. So walk before you can run. But it is about being awake to external laws and forces and influences in an objective way just as being awake in a self-consciousness way is what the 3rd state is about in a subjective way.
But see how you can use this terminology to simplify the description of the effort you are to make. The effort is to rise above the 2nd state of consciousness (waking-sleep) into the 3rd state of consciousness (self-remembering, or self-consciousness in the moment in real time in your immediate surroundings, in the moment, in events, etc.). It involves also separation and non-identifying and not being controlled by negative imagination and all the rest of it, but primarily self-remembering.
That is the effort.
So don't say: "I'm going to make self-remembering efforts now." Say: "I'm going to make the effort to be in the 3rd state of consciousness now; for duration and depth and - over time - for frequency.
It is IN the 3rd state of consciousness that C Influence can be in contact with you. When you are in the 2nd state C Influence can't reach you. You're like invisible to it. Even if you are visible you are worthless to it because you can't be reached.
