General Law and the Law of God 5
In that email I wrote:
That insight I wrote out about the General Law being God's Law (God's Law perverted by the condition and
mind and heart of fallen man in the mass)
This is something that can be seen easily once you are on to it. The law of God is perverted in every way by fallen man. All that is the General Law is the Law of God perverted. The ceremony and ritual and commands and so on. And it is all made death, but the beings caught in it don't know any better. They think they are pious, holy, and righteous. People in the General Law, who make up the General Law, think this of themselves.
But look how that insight I mentioned getting from reading a debate awhile back that murder and war are actually forms of sacrifice being carried out. Human sacrifice in this case. Perverted sacrifice. This is how fallen man perverts the Law of God. How fallen man can't possibly follow the law of God or even see it for what it truly is.
But look at how people in the General Law have their rituals and celebrations and commands and so on, and if you don't follow them in it you are the equivalent of a heretic or reprobate. You certainly are treated as such. I remarked once that when I would make some criticism of some stupid Hollywood movie one of my shallow brothers would react as if I'd just insulted his religion. In fact I did insult his religion.
But that is all the law of God as fallen man can only understand it and live it. That is why the law of God is death for fallen man. For Adam it was different. He had ability to follow it, but chose not to. Fallen man on the other hand has no ability at ALL to follow the law of God and can only pervert it and turn it into what the Work calls the General Law.
Sex replaces Christ in the General Law, for instance.
But once you see the General Law for what it is it means you have begun to separate from it (and to feel all the friction that involves). This is the same thing as "dying to the law" as the apostle Paul put it. The law can only make hypocrites, vain, prideful, moralistic, holier-than-thou, idol-worshipping, creation-worshipping hypocrites. Usually violent and resentful as all hell.
All the law of God can do positively now for fallen man is drive him to Christ (or, the Gospel; and the Work is connected here as the practices that enable us to commune with God and receive His influence). To faith in what is higher. To the only door to God's Kingdom available to fallen man.
The law of God for fallen man is death itself. A curse. Only Jesus could follow it, and He did, and by faith in Him God imputes to us His righteousness. But to be able to have real saving faith in Jesus you have to get above your vanity, worldly pride, and self-will and manifest faith, reprentance, and descent-of-the-dove God's will. But these aren't 'works' in the sense of we 'do' them. They are graces given to us freely by God. In the law of Christ what God demands he gives freely. Yet we are also new beings at that point. Regeneration by the Word and the Spirit makes us new beings. Gives us a new heart. So it's not like we're robots receiving these things. We are newly-made-alive real individual beings with real liberty (rather than the counterfeit liberty one thinks one has when one is still in the unregenerate fallen state).
