God's will and man's freedom
The first appendix of A. W. Pink's Sovereignty of God (Baker Books edition) in a few words sums up the difficult reconciling of God's will and man's freedom.
You have to read it. It's a major subject in biblical doctrine.
The Work adds something big to the picture as well. The Work introduces the possibility of vertical movement in this medium of God's sovereign will. If you stay at the lowest level it indeed does 'look' like determinism, and no matter what you choose to do it was determined by God beforehand (etc.). Yet once you begin to awaken and to develop level of being and rise up from one 'wire' to a higher 'wire' (to use the metaphor G. or O. used) you introduce freedom, real freedom, that is also in harmony with God's sovereign will.
This is about laws, and escaping laws, and how there is more liberty the less laws you are in. This requires more self-command, which is another way of saying it requires development of level of being. This is done by God too. Sanctification.
