the Centaur's wisdom (7 book list)
I sometimes attempt to add to or subtract from a list of books I was given by a centaur, but inevitably I see the wisdom of the centaur in keeping the list to the number and to the books he specifically put into it.
- Holy Bible
- Homer - Iliad & Odyssey
- von Clausewitz - On War
- Smith - Wealth of Nations
- Ouspensky - FW/ISM/PMPE
- Thucydides - History of the Peloponnesian War
- Plutarch - Lives
This is the list from the beginning and has stood the test of time. The centaur was laconic in enunciating the list (distracted somewhat by sharpening some arrows), yet he was deliberate. He gave me the impression that he was speaking from age old, tried and true wisdom, take it, or leave it.
As I have lived with the list over time the realization has grown that it is an inspired, complete, universal, balanced, and powerful set of influences.
