I'm organized
I wrote a list of five things that are most important for me. (I'd reproduce it, but such a list will be different for each person.)
They cover life and Work and so on. Everything.
One thing is my reading. I know what to read to stay sharp. I know what is available. I have my list. Since I've read them all cover-to-cover already I don't have to do that again. I can read them in sections. It's about staying sharp though. So I have a book bag where I have my seven book list plus a doctrinal work. It's with me in my room or my car. I read Book 6 of the Odyssey today. Why not? I'm currently reading a section of Human Nature in its Fourfold State on death. 16 pages or so, which I can handle. If I started the whole book I'd never finish. Don't have to. It's a doctrinal book, I know doctrine, I can read it section by section, jumping around.
You miss a lot when you don't re-read books, as Lewis said.
My 3 Line Self-Remembering, or the two conscious shocks as being in covenant with God. That's big.
Classical music is now a part of my life again. It is very important because of all the crass popular influences we are deluged with. Classical music is like spending time in the company of a god or goddess in comparison. I'm currently listening to Bruckner's 7th Symphony, the Furtwangler live recording I fortunately didn't sell. Heard some of Bruckner's motets (choral music) as well. Also Shostokovich's 8th String Quartet. It's going to be computer listening, but so what, my speakers seem to be pretty good.
I bought a workout thing that will enable me to do a complete workout indoors. Nothing of a machine-like nature, but I don't want to say because it will make me sound like a wimp. It works though. Workouts are important because they simply clear the body up. And the mind.
I guess I *am* writing out the list.
I have to include money on the list. I have to shepherd and increase my wealth. I don't need to be rich, but it's my job, basically. I have to be wise and well-disciplined regarding it. And under money I include everything of a worldly nature. Keeping your car serviced, having shelter, all that.
ps- The days are short, no matter how old you are. Our days are vain (empty), for the most part. Yet real development is not vain.
