A Work doctrine
I need to bring to light a Work doctrine. Gurdjieff made the statement that once you learn the Work (as in learn and do it and hence gain real understanding with it) then you should forget it all. This is a doctrine. Because there is dissolution. We see in the lives of Work individuals, inlcuding the lives of G. and O. themselves, a need for a restart or re-constituting within themselves of the Work.
Gods have a way to re-constitute their beings. The Tree of Life, it's fruit and its leaves, are a way to do this.
The only thing I can discern for a flesh human in the situation of having been through a real Work cycle (lasting years) would have to do with influences. As boring as that may sound, I suspect one has to go back to influence that set the foundation for your initial awakening. But with a difference, of course. The difference being you use the influences in a more conscious way. You know them now. There is less wasted effort and time. There is no time wasted on useless influences. You reset the foundation by re-engaging influences you know to be summit-level, and by re-engaging activities that develop centers.
This sounds like going backwards I know, but the difference has to be seen: the difference is the refining of the influences (your ability to recognize them) and thus getting a purer, quicker hit of them.
I can see this perhaps more clearly with music than with literature (not to write off literature, just making a point). I can see how great works of classical music bring me back to a level I was at before in a unique and effective way. (And this brings up something: when you become dissolute in the Work you find yourself indulging lower level influences. Pop level music, for instance. Sport. Being drawn back into the shallow world of the vanities of human existence and conversation.
You need to re-constitute Magnetic Center. It becomes a little dissolute.
Addendum: That was a boring post I know. I should have come up
with something more shockingly new than going back to
already used influences. The ultimate refining of
influences is probably just using the Bible.
Meditating on each of its parts, getting the language
into you deeply. The Tree of Life, two conscious
shocks. No escape.
