Work Acts and the Kingdom (Read Whole Thing)
I just read something that puts the means of grace (or sanctification in his wording) at two: the Word and prayer.
This works too regarding the two conscious shocks. If you add fasting too it works still.
Prayer can be seen, in a generous practical, esoteric reading, as being connected with the first conscious shock (self-remembering) and even the second conscious shock (though I see fasting, i.e. non-identifying, in that).
The Word, prayer, and fasting.
In fact, I tend to see the sacraments as being sui generis (I think that's Latin for "being the only example of its kind; unique"). They are visual parables. Baptism is a visual parable of regeneration. Not actual regeneration, which is effected, when it is, by the Word and the Holy Spirit, but a visual parable of regeneration. Also, baptism is a public confession of faith. The Lord's Supper is a visual parable for...connection, communion with Christ? Also with others. Also covenant renewal. It strengthens faith, or keeps one in remembrance of it all. They are both rituals though and not the real thing they signify.
(An order level Christian has magnetic center and school knowledge and an abiding day-to-day valuation for doing the school knowledge (not to mention an order Christian has the two conscious shocks) which take the place of ritual sacraments and puts the order Christian at the practical level of doing. An order level Christian also has the traffic of the world as his church. And C Influence. And the discipline that comes from living from the Work rather than from life. And it has to be a given that the Bible and sound, foundational doctrine is known.)
Prayer and fasting correspond to the two conscious shocks more because prayer and fasting are practices themselves.
But there is also a connection with the two sacraments too nevertheless.
The two great commandments as well. Because 'love God' is a vertical thing just as self-remembering is a vertical connection thing; and 'love your neighbor' is a horizontal thing just as non-identifying at the critical point when energy wants to manifest negatively (always directed ultimately at a human or humans, i.e. our neighbor) is a horizontal relation to others thing.
When you effect the second conscious shock, that moment, I really see that being described in metaphorical ways with the description of Christ 'entering' and you 'supping' with him. Also in the symbolism of sacrifice (of suffering). That contact too. The second conscious shock is a contact with Real I. (Behind Real I is God.)
So, having said all the above, if you approach the two conscious shocks as if you are engaged in an act of worship and communion with what is holy, and if you see these two Work acts as being something that connects you and forms you within a larger reality and structure (called the Covenant of Redemption, and the Kingdom of God itself) you will take it more seriously and you will realize just why you don't really want to do it (it's demanding...being on holy ground is demanding, it requires discipline and a demeanor one would have if one was in the presence of God Himself, yet we have a Mediator who makes us holy before God, so be bold) and you will realize just why and how much it separates you from the world, so you won't be blindsided by that aspect of it all, you can confront it, i.e. rather than being vaguely depressed by the separation-from-the-world aspect Work efforts cause you can see it now in the great teaching of the Covenant of Redemption and election and the Kingdom of God, so you know what is happening and where you are putting yourself.
There is also an eschatological element in Work effort. You are consummating your development. Provoking consummation. This causes friction and fire, but it's just a matter of you getting to that H12 to H6 inner transformation, and that is the practical goal. What it means for new functions and new being and new existence can only be experienced.
